Ich Bin En Berliner

I was in Berlin last week and was lucky enough to catch Stephan Bodzins' dj set - among others. The venue itself wasn't much to write home about (103 club or something) but it was unreal nonetheless. He was energetic, technically flawless and his set was well put together. I danced hard for 3 hours - with a big smile on my face. Respect!!

The taste:

OMG!!!

I've been clubbing in Tokyo for some time now, found it a bit borring first, but once you dig deeper there's shit loads of clubs, playing the sweetest tracks. The DJ's are ace technically compared to back home, and the sheer volume of different clubs and events is just crazy. blah blah, i know, but seriously, it's nice.

So Nanna (my very good friend) persuaded me to go to a 2manydj's gig last night, I wasn't that keen on going considering the fact that I've always found'em a bit overrated (though I haven't bothered checking them out). It was also really expensive (a whopping 4000 yen, equivalent of 200dk.), but fuck. It was fucking awesome, I've never experienced anything that intense before. It litteraly blew my head off. Probs to 2manydj's, that shit was awe inspiring. Enuff with the dick riding, but mixing "love is in the air" with "La rock", and actually making it work just calls for out-of-this-world praise.

Check the little poor quality teaser i shot from the show for a taste.

Teenagers Love Trentemøller

photo: andreas omvik

If you're in Hellerup tonight you can witness yours truly unleash a demonic set unto unbeknownst 9th and 10th graders at an end of term party. Hooray.
I can already imagine it:
Teenage Girl (TG): "Do you have Trentemøller?"
Me: Yup.
TG: Well, can you play ..umm.. you know that track... the Röyksopp one?
Me: Ahh.. you mean Champagne.. right?
TG: YEAH thats it! Can you play it now?
ME: I'd love to.
My set ends at 23:30 where I then have to pack my gear, get into a cab, get home, drop off the gear, pack new records, then ride my bike into jazzhouse - for a very much anticipated 5 straight hours of cutting edge tech.
It'll probably go something like this:
Jazzhouse club kid (JCK): Hey! I love the music you're playing :)
Me: Thanks! :)
JCK: You got any Justice?
Me: Yup!
JCK: Could you play waters of nazareth..? actually, anything from Ed Banger would be cool.. or Trentemøller!
Me: Sorry mate, I just played waters of nazareth.. I could hook up a Bodyrox track if you like..?
JCK: Bodyrox... ahh, no thanks. What Trentemøller you got?
Me: Alot. umm.. what about Trentemøllers remix of sing hallelujah by dr. alban?
JCK: YEAH! awesome.. I love that track!
Me: Sweet. I'll hook it up soon :)
JCK: Sweet. Thanks :)
Me: No worries :)

The monster will get you sooner or later!!

Danish boys have an apparent urge to create dubstep and grime as well...And ain't that the truth! Because get this; the first danish label specialising in Dubstep, Grime, and progressive sounds beyond just arrived into the heart of copenhagen. The label, associatively named, "Kraken Recordings" is run & operated by the DJ-crew OHOI!. If you don't already know who they are, OHOI! work as producers, DJs, event organisers, lighter manufacturers (just kidding) and remixers and have done so for a number of years. They've recently been running the club Below and in the summer the award winning event RAW is going down again! (the site will be updated soon) So, one question remains.. why the monster as a logo...? ---

The Kraken: The Kraken is a legendary sea monster of gargantuan size, for centuries said to have been seen off the coasts of Scandinavia, pulling vessels and seamen to a cold and dark grave. The extreme size and fearsome appearance attributed to the beast have made the Kraken the most feared creature of the sea. Kraken derives from the old Scandinavian word “krake”; designating an unhealthy animal, or something twisted.

Stolen from: Kraken recordings info

And don't we just looove that twisted and sick thing in the basement... mmmm.. go down the basement bwoy!! ...............I really think I need to go to bed now..... GOODNIGHT!!

The first release from kraken recordings "KRKN001" is set to be in april 2007.

Kudos to dj minven thomas for the energetic raw chicken mix vol II. awesome. To be honest, I've neglected this spot for a while tuning my energy into film natured projects. Nonetheless, I would like to inform all of you that my debut short The Dancer has been officially selected for the FiSH short film festival in Rostock, Germany - in which I'll be attending! So, in light of that I'm celebrating, and in turn posting some relatively old but sweet tracks.

More bass, more distortion, more noise, more everything! Gluttony.

Free Ice Cream For All

It's kinda surreal. I went down the street earlier to buy a shirt and was confronted with a vibe that's really hard to describe..: The first thing I notice is a poignant 'burn' smell, I turn the corner and see parts of road smouldering - still. A little further and I see about 400 people lined up outside an ice cream store with a huge banner stating 'free ice-cream for all' (It's four degrees outside). During my 5 min walk, 2 undercovers plod rigidly by and a little further 5 of the bastards surround a couple of kids - harrassing the shit out of them. Humiliating. There's been yet another massive demo today culminating at Nørrebro Park. Hopefully it'll all end ok.

This track would be a really cool soundtrack for a riot scene. Listen to it and imagine angry, frustrated rioters running from the cops, burning shit, throwing cobblestones, lighting fire to cars etc - In slow motion.

Bang Gang - Find What You Get.mp3

And the remix - of course.

Bang Gang - Find What You Get (Nik 7's Shout Out Out Out Out Remix).mp3

Copenhagen's BURNING!

Well, it happenned. The cops finally 'liberated' ungdomshuset from their occupiers. Around 7.am this morning the copenhagen police - anti terror unit - landed on the roof and smashed through the windows arresting 35 sleeping inside. That went pretty smoothly..
that was 7 a.m..
Add 11 hours and you've got something looking like Beirut. The picture above is taken from Nørrebrogade (one of Copenhagens busiest streets) around 18.00. The cops have begun to use teargas. Who said Copenhagen was boring?

Neon

So, i'm in Tokyo now. Landed sunday, fairly to say that I was hit by a bad case of jetlag. Still am actually, but that'll probably start to wear off soon. We had some trouble finding a place to crass the first day, but after numerous attempts we succeed in finding a sort of businees hotel, which Lonely Planet strangely enough had labeled as low priced. It was not. So fuck you Lonely Planet. We curently recide in Jimbotcho ( the book district "lol"), and have made arrangements to move out to Harajoku next week permanently. No jobs as of yet, but that'll hopefully come in the near future. Contemplating applying for a DJ gig in a strip joint, couldn't be far off the things i've tried back in Denmark. That pretty much sums it up, But before I sign off, here's some music for your listening pleasure. Peace

First off, a Kraftwerk classic, I know it's a bit cliche, but I can't help myself. It pretty much sums up the last couple of days. And, apart from that, its a dope track.

Kraftwerk: Neon Lights

In the vein of mopping the floor with other peoples (wink wink, Rams). Thanks for the heads up Mikkels and Maria

My friend Thomas is leaving for Toyko tomorrow - and he's gonna be there for 6 months. ..well, thats the plan anyway.
Luckily, he's chaperoned by Nanna - an awesome chick of the highest order (hi sweety!) - which to be honest with you, eases my heart ...I kid, I kid.
This post is dedicated to Thomas, my friend - and to Nanna, may you guys have the trip of a lifetime, and more importantly - a safe one.
My love goes out to the both of you.

Even though we sometimes wish things would stay the same - there's nothing better than change.

Godspeed my friend.

Thomas ...I'm pregnant... and your the dad.

Fat Freddy's Drop - Flashback

End of an Era

well... As the pre-and-post pictures above clearly shows, i've finally finished years of cleaning negligence of what has been my home for a good part of the 6 years I've spent in Copenhagen. Goddammit i've been lazy. My thoughts go out to everybody who has had to put up with it, if only for a night or two (none mentioned, none forgotten). I'm more or less ready to go at this point, more on that as the time draws nearer.

The track below is awesome, and yes I've woken up! (by the way Lo-Fi-Fnk is playing at Rust tommorow, saturday, well wort checking out)

What year are we in?

Thomas brought this clip to my attention the other day.. I was at Roskilde Festival 2005 where Mr. Patton graced us with no less than 4 performances with 4 groups, namely:

FANTÔMAS ..the insanity.. fantomas is made up of Patton, Buzz Osbourne (Melvins), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer). A definate experience, if you get the chance check them out! Not really driving music.

KAADA which is a collaboration between Patton and John Erik Kaada from Norway. I can't remember that much from this one but I'm pretty sure it sucked.

MALDOROR a collaboration between Patton and Japanese artsy fartsy noise freak show MERZBOW. Again, awesome watching Patton.. but yeah, him together with an old dude that probably takes his shit way too seriously.. its like.. whatever.

RAHZEL!! This was the shit. I remember being surrounded by two meter tall swedes - all drunk and in love (not with the swedes).. That was mos def the shit!

The point is Mike Patton is cool. We at My Friend Thomas dig Mike Patton.

Oh, before I forget: Wolfmother.

Wolfmother's from australia.. I'm from australia.. Wolfmother's pretty sweet i reckon.. you know, if your on the beach, with all your mates, drinking heavly, with a huge bonfire, and chicks in bikinis everywhere.. then Wolfmother's sweet.

Enough said.. check it out for yourself :)

In Wolfmothers defence, I'm posting two Wolfmother remixes that I like. Nothing fresh - but ok nontheless.

Wolfmother - Lovetrain (Chicken Lips Malfunction Vocal Remix)

Wolfmother - Woman (MSTRKRFT Remix)

the cooler

after a rather long stint into the array of all that is headbanger, i for one would like to kick back a little. What better way to do that, than listening to some self proclaimed spacetech from mr. bodzin and mr. romboy. Perfect audio filler when engaging in hourlong sessions of battlestargalactica/startrek/babylon5 viewing on allfg.org (please do check the site out if your not already familiar with it, the quality of the video is somewhat questionable, but no downloading whatsoever)
B-side from the newest single hyperion.

Marc romboy vs stephan bodzin: IO

look ramps no hands

well... headbanger records is, sort of, cool i guess. this vid is cool, funny and simple. props to SO ME for directing it. I likes.(bonus info: SO ME was apparently one of the two geeky guys who got verbally assaulted by Mr. west at the EMA upon recieving the award for the Justice vid. Funny stuff)

Parlez-vous français..? We Don't

ED BANGER NIGHT FEAT. JUSTICE (F) & SEBASTIAN (F)

Sweetness! For all you living in (or visiting) Copenhagen Friday the 9th of February, you've got the oppertunity to check two of the most hyped djs from the parisian label at VEGA. Direct link here. I'm there with bells on.

And in the spirit of it all I'm posting three choice tracks:

Those are some pretty mean-ass waters..
Justice - Waters of Nazareth (Erol Alkan Mix)
